Less than a month after joining Inter Miami, Lionel Messi is now tied for fourth in all-time scoring for the club.
Messi produced two goals, including a late equaliser, as Inter Miami defeated Dallas in the League Cup on penalties after the score was tied 4-4.
Messi continues his impressive start to his Inter Miami career, scoring seven goals in just four games.
Messi is currently tied for the team lead with current teammate Josef Martinez on seven goals, along with Lewis Morgan and Rodolfo Pizarro, according to Ian Hest.
Gonzalo Higuain (29 goals), current Inter players Leo Campana (16 goals), and Robert Taylor (8) are the only players to have scored more goals for Inter Miami than Lionel Messi.
Messi’s achievement is still remarkable, and even though Inter Miami was only established in January 2018, it might not be long until he surpasses all previous goal scorers for the team.
Between 2020 and 2022, Higuain played for Inter Miami and made 70 appearances.
Messi helped defeat Cruz Azul in his Inter Miami debut with a late winner before scoring twice against Atlanta, once against Orlando, and once against Dallas. Against Dallas, he also scored from the penalty spot.
The 36-year-old already holds the record for Argentina with 103 goals and is the all-time best scorer for Barcelona with a whopping 672 goals. 32 goals were also scored by Messi while he was a player for Paris Saint-Germain.
Interestingly, Messi has yet to play in a league game for Inter Miami, and after that, his goal total is sure to rise much higher.
Inter Miami has advanced to the League Cup quarterfinals, where they will play either the Houston Dynamo or Charlotte.
