I Travelled From Abuja To Benin City, And Shed Tears For The Pains People Are Going Through – Umahi
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has lamented the findings he made when he travelled from Abuja to Benin City by road.
According to the report by the Punch, Umahi said that the roads are so bad and filled with potholes, that he had to shed tears when he discovered the pains that Nigerians are facing on these roads.
While speaking to newsmen at the Ministry of Works headquarters on Tuesday, the former Ebonyi State governor said that no federal job in the country right now can last up to seven years.
Umahi disclosed that he made the findings when he recently toured all the federal roads across the country.
He said – “There is no project being constructed right now in Nigeria that is going to last for seven years. The question is are we going to be maintaining or reconstructing our roads every 10 years? That is what we have been doing.
“I traveled from Abuja to Benin City through Lokoja, all the stretches of the road are on contract, and ongoing, this is through the policy of the last administration, but how much of the roads are motorable? I travelled through the roads myself and I shed tears for the kind of pains our people are going through.”
