Ohanaeze condemns brutal massacre in Plateau, calls for urgent action
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide expressed deep dismay over the appalling news of a brutal massacre that claimed the lives of more than 150 individuals in communities across the Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2023, at the hands of unidentified gunmen.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze, denounced the Plateau carnage as an “orchestrated act of genocide.”
Expressing bewilderment at the persistence of such barbaric acts in the modern era, he questioned why the nation continued to grapple with brutal and senseless mass killings.
Iwuanyanwu voiced his frustration with the federal government’s reluctance to adopt the Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s recommendations for restructuring and implementing a state policing system as a viable solution to the ongoing loss of lives and property across the country.
He emphasized that the current federal security architecture has proven ineffective for Nigeria’s diverse demography.
Criticizing the impunity enjoyed by past perpetrators of heinous crimes, Iwuanyanwu urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action and ensure that those responsible for the callous crime in Plateau State are brought to justice.
Additionally, the Igbo leader called upon the Igbo community in Plateau State to extend solidarity to the affected families, the displaced, and all victims of this catastrophic event. The plea underscores the need for collective support in the face of such tragedy and emphasizes the importance of unity during challenging times.
